Years in Baton Rouge
When Shintech first established operations in the Baton Rouge region, the company selected Addis, Louisiana for its strategic location along the Mississippi River, access to abundant feedstocks, and proximity to a highly skilled process manufacturing workforce. In 1998, Shintech announced plans to develop a PVC production facility capable of producing 1.3 billion pounds annually, and by 2000, the company began operations.
Building on this foundation, Shintech announced a series of major expansions that have continually scaled its Louisiana footprint. In 2015, the company announced a $1.4 billion investment to construct an ethylene production unit in Iberville Parish, creating 100 new direct jobs and supporting more than 750 total jobs. This project strengthened vertical integration across Shintech’s operations and marked the first ethylene plant built in the U.S. by a Japanese chemical company.
Building One of the World’s Largest PVC Complexes
In 2018, Shintech followed with a $1.49 billion expansion, adding chlor-alkali and VCM production capacity and expanding its PVC manufacturing operations. This project created 120 new direct jobs, supported more than 700 total jobs.
In 2021, Shintech announced another $1.3 billion expansion to enhance manufacturing and packaging operations across Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes. This investment increased PVC production capacity, expanded chlor-alkali operations, and modernized logistics infrastructure, while retaining more than 500 jobs.
Most recently, in 2026, Shintech announced a transformative $3.4 billion expansion, representing the next phase of its long-term growth strategy in Louisiana. The project includes construction of a second ethylene unit and additional chlor-alkali and VCM capacity at its Iberville Parish complex. This expansion is expected to create 163 new direct jobs. The phased project, with initial completion expected by 2030, will incorporate advanced, lower-emissions manufacturing technologies—reinforcing both Shintech’s global competitiveness and Louisiana’s leadership in sustainable industrial production.
Since beginning operations in 2000, Shintech has invested more than $9 billion in Louisiana, building one of the largest integrated PVC production complexes in the United States. The company’s facilities in Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes support hundreds of direct employees, hundreds of contractors, and thousands of additional jobs across the region. Shintech is also a leading exporter through the Port of New Orleans, playing a vital role in global trade.
“We are pleased to announce our continued growth and investment in Louisiana. This investment aligns with Shintech’s strategy to ensure reliable and cost-effective supply of key feedstocks for our business. We are extremely grateful to Louisiana’s state and parish officials and to our neighbors whose strong support and understanding has been integral to Shintech’s growth and success in Louisiana.”
