Program Overview
National data shows that only 2% of high school students complete internships—rarely exceeding 20% even in the top states. In contrast, Baton Rouge placed over 750 students in internships in summer 2025, partnering with 114 businesses across industries like healthcare, IT, public service, and education. This 6.9% participation rate puts the region ahead of national averages and positions it as a leader in youth workforce development.
Interns gain hands-on experience in professional settings, develop workplace and technical skills, and receive guidance from mentors. Many participants also earn high school credit or career certifications while contributing to meaningful projects. With increased business participation, internship opportunities now reach more neighborhoods and schools, helping close equity gaps and strengthen the region’s future workforce.
