Amazon is the global leader in e-commerce, logistics, and cloud computing. Seeking a strategic logistics location with redevelopment potential, Amazon selected East Baton Rouge Parish in 2021 for a $200 million robotics fulfillment center. Since opening in 2024, the 3.4 million-square-foot BTR1 facility has created over 1,000 jobs, processes up to 300,000 packages a day, and serves as a major anchor for regional revitalization along Baton Rouge’s Florida Corridor.

Pennington Biomedical is a global leader in obesity and nutrition research. In 2019, the center partnered with Our Lady of the Lake to launch a $5.9 million Bariatric and Metabolic Institute in East Baton Rouge Parish. The project created 55 high-wage jobs and positioned Louisiana as a national destination for obesity treatment and research.
Success Stories
ExxonMobil is one of the world’s largest publicly traded energy and petrochemical companies. To meet rising demand for high-performance plastics, ExxonMobil selected East Baton Rouge Parish for a $500 million expansion of its Polyolefins Plant. Since its 2019 announcement, the project has created 65 new direct jobs, supported 600 construction jobs, and doubled the plant’s polypropylene production capacity. The company also introduced VR workforce training and deepened community partnerships across Baton Rouge.
Success Stories
Shintech is the world’s leading producer of PVC and related chemical products. Seeking to expand its ethylene production capabilities, Shintech selected Iberville Parish in 2015 for a $1.4 billion investment in Plaquemine. Since then, the company has announced nearly $2.8 billion in additional expansions, added over 250 jobs, and solidified its long-term growth in the Capital Region’s chemical manufacturing corridor.

IBM is a global technology and consulting leader with a focus on AI, cloud computing, and data services. Looking to expand with a new technology services center, IBM selected East Baton Rouge Parish in 2013 for its $55 million IBM Services Center. Since opening in 2015, the downtown Baton Rouge facility has created more than 800 direct jobs—including over 300 LSU graduates—and has expanded its focus to cutting-edge technologies like AI and IBM’s watsonx platform.
