Talent
Fueling Tech Talent
Greater Baton Rouge is home to a dynamic and growing tech workforce of more than 7,600 professionals. Local universities and colleges produce thousands of STEM graduates each year, building a pipeline of talent across software engineering, cybersecurity, data science, and more:
LSU's Strong Talent Pipeline
Through Louisiana State University’s College of Engineering and partnerships with major energy employers, LSU offers specialized training in chemical, petroleum, mechanical, and electrical engineering, as well as hands-on experience through co-ops, internships, and research in energy innovation and sustainability.
Sustainability at Southern University
As Louisiana’s flagship HBCU, Southern University offers computer science students specialties in Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Information Systems, and Mobile Computing, while advancing research in robotics, AI, big data, and bioinformatics.

Talent at Every Level
From early-stage innovators to global enterprises, Baton Rouge has the skilled professionals you need to power innovation.
Partnership
Next-Gen Technology, Born in Baton Rouge
Through a $1.5M National Science Foundation award, LSU and Southern University are expanding access to high-performance computing with a focus on energy efficiency. Their collaborative “train-the-trainer” model is preparing the next generation of skilled tech talent across Louisiana—equipping students with cutting-edge skills in parallel computing, C++, and HPX software to power the future of AI and data-driven innovation.
LSU Emerges as National Leader in Cyber for Critical Infrastructure
LSU became the first university in the U.S. to partner with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), DHS S&T, and Idaho National Laboratory (INL) on a one-of-a-kind model for cybersecurity for critical infrastructure. This partnership brings the first-ever university-based cyber-physical training platform, the Tiger Skid, to campus. This custom-built equipment, located at LSU’s PERTT lab, will provide hands-on experience for students and allow industry partners and government agencies to train on a real-world, cyber-physical test range to defend against attacks on critical energy infrastructure. This major investment strengthens Louisiana’s national leadership in operational technology (OT) cybersecurity and builds a hands-on talent pipeline to secure the energy sector.
Baton Rouge Leads in Digital Twin Technology
Baton Rouge is at the forefront of digital twin technology, with academic institutions and companies pioneering its use. Digi-Twin Global, a Baton Rouge-based company, is creating intelligent virtual models of infrastructure like bridges and levees, while LSU is fueling this innovation with a one-of-a-kind master’s degree program that focuses on digital twins. Students in this program recently built a digital twin of a NASA rocket factory to improve manufacturing processes. This work is positioning Baton Rouge as a hub for developing the talent and solutions needed to optimize infrastructure for the future.
LIGO Detects Ripples in Spacetime
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), located in Livingston Parish, is a marvel of precision engineering and a national facility for gravitational-wave research. This observatory, one of two in the United States, uses laser interferometry to detect the minute ripples in spacetime—known as gravitational waves—caused by cataclysmic cosmic events like merging black holes or neutron stars. LIGO’s groundbreaking work has opened up a new field of gravitational-wave astrophysics and solidified the Baton Rouge Area as a global center for cutting-edge scientific discovery.
