In 2023, Integer Technologies announced the intent to open a permanent office on Louisiana State University’s flagship campus in Baton Rouge to work directly with faculty and students on advanced defense research. The move coincided with a $9.8 million research award from the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research to develop new maritime technologies that improve the intelligence, autonomy, and decision-making capabilities of distributed networks of autonomous vessels. Integer selected East Baton Rouge Parish for its expansion because of LSU’s world-class research capabilities and access to a highly skilled talent pipeline of engineers and scientists. Proximity to the Gulf Coast and its established maritime and energy infrastructure provides a natural testbed for applied research and field demonstrations.
The company’s Baton Rouge office, located in the LSU Emerging Technology Center, includes 4,000 square feet of office and lab space with secure facilities to support U.S. government projects. Integer’s Baton Rouge team has grown to eight full-time employees, with plans to expand to 15 or more by 2028, alongside nearly 20 LSU professors, researchers, and students contributing to active defense research programs.
Advancing Innovation Through University Collaboration
Since establishing its Baton Rouge presence, Integer has deepened its collaboration with LSU’s Colleges of Engineering and Science across disciplines such as computer science, mechanical engineering, oceanography, and coastal sciences. The company supports student internships and research assistantships, with several LSU graduates joining Integer full-time or pursuing advanced degrees through the partnership.
Integer’s involvement extends beyond federal contracts to community engagement and workforce development. The company has sponsored two LSU senior capstone teams to design and build an unmanned surface vessel for future testing and demonstrations related to ongoing Navy research. The firm also participated in in-water demonstration events with Louisiana-based partners to test mission management and operator awareness technologies, further strengthening the region’s maritime innovation ecosystem.
In recognition of its growth and collaboration, Integer received the Louisiana Technology Emerging Leader Award and was named to the 2025 Silicon Bayou List at LSU’s Silicon Bayou Gala, honoring organizations advancing Louisiana’s technology sector.

We’re developing cutting-edge, intelligent autonomy to support the national security priorities of the U.S. Department of War, while building on the substantial maritime technology infrastructure in Louisiana to create meaningful, well-paying jobs for the local workforce.”
