Metric Tons of CO2 Emissions Avoided Through Solstice Products
When Honeywell pursued an expansion with a new medical-grade and specialty chemical manufacturing facility, the company looked at the Baton Rouge Area for its skilled workforce, strong industrial base, and reliable logistics infrastructure. In 2022, Honeywell selected Baton Rouge, LA, for its Solstice® Air and Solstice® ze production site—an advanced materials facility focused on ultra-low-global-warming-potential (GWP) solutions.
This major investment has included multiple phases. In 2021, Honeywell announced a capacity-doubling expansion of the site to meet rising global demand for Solstice® ze (1234ze), used in foam insulation, propellants, refrigeration, and air conditioning. In 2022, the facility became the company’s first to manufacture Solstice® Air (HFO-1234ze(E) cGMP), a near-zero GWP medical propellant being used in next-generation respiratory inhalers through a partnership with AstraZeneca.
Innovating for a Low-Carbon Future
Since the announcement, Honeywell has begun production at the site, expanded its workforce, and deepened its investment in climate-friendly technologies. The Baton Rouge facility now plays a critical role in helping the company meet global regulatory demand for low-GWP solutions while advancing health and environmental outcomes.
In recognition of its leadership in innovation and sustainable manufacturing, Honeywell has received widespread industry recognition. The global adoption of its Solstice® products has already avoided more than 250 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions—equal to removing 52 million cars from the road for a year.
