Baton Rouge fosters strong connections between higher education and industry to ensure businesses have access to the talent they need. Custom workforce solutions, internship programs, and specialized training initiatives help companies secure the right employees for the job—now and in the future.
LSU + Our Lady of the Lake Health:
Setting a Gold Standard in Sepsis Care
LSU researchers partnered with Our Lady of the Lake Health and medical diagnostics company Cytovale to develop IntelliSep, a rapid FDA-approved sepsis test now used at Baton Rouge hospitals. This breakthrough enables diagnosis up to 60 minutes faster, improving patient outcomes and reducing hospital costs, with over 3,000 patients tested since August 2023.
BASF + LSU:
Optimizing Chemical Manufacturing with AI
LSU chemical engineers are partnering with BASF’s Geismar plant to apply AI and machine learning for real-time optimization of complex production processes. By developing “soft sensors” that predict key quality parameters from data alone, LSU’s research helps BASF increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve yield in one of the world’s largest chemical manufacturing sites.
Shell and LSU:
Pioneering Energy Innovation
Shell’s $27.5 million investment establishes LSU’s Institute for Energy Innovation and funds a cutting-edge interdisciplinary science building. This partnership fuels research and development in hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCUS), low carbon fuels, and coastal resilience—positioning LSU as a national leader in clean energy solutions and workforce development critical to Louisiana’s economy and the nation’s energy future.
LSU and NASA:
Creating a Virtual Space for Innovation
LSU’s Digital Media Arts & Engineering program is partnering with NASA to develop a “digital twin” of the Michoud Assembly Facility, a key site for building rockets like the Orion crew capsule. This real-time virtual replica enhances design testing, reduces costs, and offers immersive training for future engineers. The project also supports NASA’s Artemis program and enables global collaboration by letting experts access the facility virtually from anywhere.
