BATON ROUGE, La. (December 19, 2023) — The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) last week celebrated 12 companies who made the decision to locate or expand in the Capital Region in 2023, representing over $430 million in capital expenditures and nearly 500 new jobs, at its annual Big Wins Bash.
“Our team is thrilled and honored to welcome these investments into the Capital Region this year,” said Russell Richardson, BRAC’s senior vice president of business development. “We’ve set our sights on diversifying our economy, and we saw great momentum towards this goal. Many of the wins for this year come from investments of our existing companies innovating their products as they serve sectors such as, software development, specialty chemicals in pharma and ag tech, defense and cyber, and energy efficiency.”

2023 marks the second year of BRAC’s five-year strategic plan, BRING IT!, which aims to create 500 new jobs in the emerging sectors of health and life sciences, new energy, and software development. With this year’s project activity, BRAC saw 56 new direct jobs in emerging sectors. Additionally, BRAC saw a combined new jobs total of 520 new jobs across multiple industry sectors such as distribution, energy, chemicals, and consumer products.
These jobs build on 2022’s news jobs which totaled 292 in emerging sectors and 286 in its key industries.
In addition to these investment and jobs announcements, BRAC shared that over $4 billion in capital investment and over 2,500 jobs were announced in feasibility projects in 2023, mainly in new energy projects. BRAC’s business development team will be working with the companies associated with these projects and its economic development partners to help bring these investments to fruition.
BRAC’s business development team works collaboratively with State and parish partners to lead and manage recruitment efforts in the Capital Region through the identification of these new project opportunities.
