The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) today announces its support for Constitutional Amendment 2, a key measure in Louisiana’s tax reform efforts. This amendment aims to simplify the state’s tax structure, strengthen economic stability, and ensure long-term prosperity for all Louisianans.
If passed, Amendment 2 will solidify the tax reforms enacted in 2024, which delivered significant tax cuts and fiscal restructuring. The amendment represents the final step in updating Louisiana’s constitution to reflect a modern economy, making the state more attractive for business investment and job growth.
“Amendment 2 provides a pathway toward a more stable and sustainable economic environment,” said Lori Melancon, President and CEO of BRAC. “By modernizing our tax structure, this measure will support long-term growth and strengthen the foundation for future economic success.”
A Yes vote on Amendment 2 would:
- Reduce Louisiana’s maximum income tax rate, providing direct relief to workers
- Allow parishes to phase out the inventory tax, easing a burden on businesses
- Preserve the homestead exemption for Louisiana homeowners
- Increase flexibility in state funding for critical infrastructure projects
- Secure permanent pay raises for teachers and school staff
This is an opportunity to bring Louisiana’s fiscal policies into the modern era,” said Nial Patel, Chairman of BRAC’s Board of Directors. “Amendment 2 will put Louisiana on the right track by ensuring a fairer tax structure and reinforcing the progress made by Governor Landry and the legislature in 2024’s historic reforms.”
BRAC encourages all Louisiana voters to support Constitutional Amendment 2. Early voting runs from March 15-22, 2025, and the amendment will appear on the March 29, 2025, statewide ballot. Voting information is available at geauxvote.com.
