BASF Corporation is the North American affiliate of BASF SE, a German multinational and the world’s largest chemical producer. Founded in 1865, BASF specializes in chemicals, plastics, performance products, and agricultural solutions, serving markets across North America and globally.
When BASF pursued the final phase of a multi-part expansion to double methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) production capacity, the company looked at the Baton Rouge Area for its strategic location, skilled workforce, strong logistics infrastructure, and competitive incentive packages. In 2022, BASF selected Geismar, LA, for its $780 million chemical manufacturing complex expansion. This new phase created 37 direct new jobs and 147 indirect jobs, while retaining over 1,000 existing positions, enhancing production capacity to meet growing North American demand.
Since the announcement, BASF has advanced construction, continuing a multi-year investment exceeding $2 billion in the Geismar site, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable chemical manufacturing.
