Katoen Natie is a Belgium-based business that provides integrated logistics solutions across industries such as petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, consumer goods, and automotive. The company specializes in warehousing, packing, distribution, and value-added services and serves customers globally.
When Katoen Natie pursued an expansion with a new petrochemical storage and processing facility, the company looked at the Baton Rouge Area for its strategic location, strong chemical industry workforce, robust logistics infrastructure, and dual rail access opportunities. In 2013, Katoen Natie selected Baton Rouge, LA for its $150 million petrochemical logistics platform. This new facility created 210 new direct jobs and strengthened the region’s ability to support petrochemical and specialty chemical producers, helping absorb increased production tied to U.S. shale gas growth.
Since the announcement, Katoen Natie has completed the first phase of its 2 million-square-foot indoor storage complex, hired employees, and expanded its U.S. network, providing world-class logistics support to domestic and international customers. The company is now deepening that commitment through a new $25 million expansion at its Polymers Terminal in East Baton Rouge Parish, which will add 150,000 square feet of warehouse space and modernize operations to increase efficiency and throughput. The project supports continued growth in polymer logistics and reinforces the Capital Region’s role as a strategic hub for advanced manufacturing and global supply chain activity.
