Lightsource bp is a United Kingdom business that develops and manages solar energy projects. The company specializes in the full scope development, financing, and long-term operation of large-scale solar energy projects and serves customers in markets around the world, including the United States, Europe, and Australia.
When Lightsource bp was searching for a location for its next major solar energy facility, the company chose the Baton Rouge Area for its favorable solar resources, collaborative local leadership, and potential to create long-term economic impact. In 2021, Pointe Coupee Parish was selected as the home of the $300+ million project—now known as the Oxbow Solar farm, the largest in Louisiana.
In mid-2024, the 345-megawatt dc solar farm entered commercial operation. Ownership of the privately funded project was assumed by JERA Nex, while Lightsource bp continues to manage asset operations and provide O&M services. The solar farm, located near the False River oxbow lake in Ventress, Louisiana, is helping power the U.S. operations of McDonald’s and eBay through corporate power purchase agreements.
